Prep and Aftercare
Before Your Spray Tan:
Exfoliate and shave 12-24 hours before your spray tan with a basic loofah or wash rag. Shaving is not required but if you are going to, do so in the correct time frame. Streaks may be an issue in your final tan if you shave right before due to the wax from the moisturizing bar on your razor. Avoid any scrubs and exfoliating containing oils as they can leave a film on your skin. If you shower again after exfoliating and before your appointment, aim for your last shower to be at least 6 hours before your appointment (freshly washed skin does not absorb the spray tan solution evenly and your skin needs time for its pH to regulate after showing). After showering avoid applying lotions, oils, or perfumes, although very dry areas can definitely be an exception.
An example of great prep would be exfoliating/washing hair the night before tan, moisturizing face and dry areas. A quick rinse the morning of and a light layer of lotion on the face a few hours before the tan.
(Any Dove products: soap/lotion/deodorants are not suited for spray tans)
Spray Tans are the last beauty stop. Manicures, pedicures, and waxing ideally should all be done prior to your spray tan.
None of these things will completely make or break your spray tan. The solutions I pick have passed numerous tests and are the MOST high quality and typically do fine even if everything wasn’t done perfectly. During your appointment let me know if there is anything you were unable to prepare for and I will try my best to accommodate.
What to wear to your Spray Tan:
To the appointment: Loose-fitting dark clothes, long sleeves/pants/sweatpants are best but not required. Avoid wearing a bra if possible after the tan.
During the tan: Bra/underwear, swimwear, or nude. Whatever you are most comfortable with. Men must wear some form of undergarment. I do provide disposable thongs and pasties if you would like.
After your Spray Tan:
I will decide the best rinse time for your spray tan during your appointment depending on the solution we use. It is important to rinse right at or as close as possible to the time we discuss. I cannot guarantee your desired outcome for your tan if not followed exactly.
Rinsing should be with just lukewarm water (no soap other than the privates) and the initial spray should be rubbed off entirely with your hands. Your tan will still take 24 hours to fully develop AFTER your rinse. If "streaks" occur, hop back into the shower and rub off the remaining bronzer again with your hand.
After rinsing the initial tan, you can moisturize as normal but avoid excessive sweating or swimming until the following day. Your next shower can be taken as normal. Patting your skin dry rather than rubbing will help maintain your tan longer.
The most important factor in having a long-lasting tan is by moisturizing your skin twice, daily. I highly recommend CeraVe, Hempz, or Native lotion for your spray tan. Avoid any lotions with Mineral Oil. Wear Loose Clothing:
Keep in mind, that any physical and chemical exfoliants, submerging in water / hot showers, and dry skin, will make your tan fade quicker.
